What are you looking for when traveling to NYC?

If you were only given one choice to experience the sights of New York city, which would be to take a cruise… what would you enjoy having on a cruise along the Hudson? For example, fine dining, live entertainment, welcome gifts? Would you expect to have these cruises combined w/ another form of tourist travel w/n the city? Describe your perfect NYC cruise – whether it’s a family trip, a couple’s night, friends hanging out, anniversaries… I am conducting a survey and wish to get the input of those who would be guests of the ferries in this area. What attracts you the most – what will entice you to visit NYC? Your positive input would be appreciated!
I love THE City…
but the best “cruise” in NYC is by foot…second to that? By car.
It is wonderful to see the views from the river..romantic, serene..but to feel the heat and the heartbeat of the city…you must be touching pavement.
So..in answer to your q…a combination..romantic around the island cruise…a hummer limo “insiders look” into the after hours clubs and naughty nooks and crannys…ending with a horse ride thru the park to the lake and a canoe ride….then..a weeks sleep!
I have had friends come to NY and they have taken a similar thing – a dinner cruise around manhattan.
They didn’t like it.
The whole idea of coming to New York City is to BE in the city.
They did like taking the staten island ferry to look at the Statue of Liberty, because as they said “they felt like New Yorkers” rather than tourists.
Also, they thought the Dinner cruise was a huge rip $$ wise.
It’s expensive enough to come to NY, let alone paying crazy cash to eat and float AROUND manhattan rather than just exploring a true small NYC eatery on some side street that you stumble upon and remember forever.
Good luck with the Cruise thing, but in my experience and with my friends, it’s not something I will recommend to my future visitors. They want to be IN the city, not just staring at it.
That said, as a native, I’d say I might be interested in a romantic evening cruise around NYC with my lady. Something maybe with dancing separate from the dining, but available, but perhaps a drink on the deck in the night air might be nice too. I’d hire a limo to ferry us to and from the boat, so the evening is worry free.
best of luck!
Take a night bus tour. Great scenes and sights at night of the city…http://www.citysightsny.com/
Also day tours of downtown, uptown and wonderful Brooklyn.
Great rates too

Make sure the cruise personnel know what they are talking about. I once heard a cruise boat loudspeaker announce, as the boat exited the Harlem Ship Canal into the Hudson, “To Your Right Is Albany!” Yeah, about 160 miles to your right. Half the tourists probably looked at the part of Riverdale visible and thought they were seeing the Governor’s Mansion.
A cruise around the city, not merely encircling Manhattan, can be quite interesting. Encircle Manhattan and Staten Island, cruise along Brooklyn and Queens, then turn and cruise along the Bronx, and when into the Hudson again, sail north for a while. Live entertainment is okay for those not wishing to view the sights, but do NOT have it so loud that it spoils things for those not wanting to hear it.
