    8% state tax
    15% tip (expected – you’ll find it difficult to get away with less, even though it’s not obligatory by law)

    Sometimes on a party of 5+ (some 6+) will have anywhere from 18-20% tax added. That is a common thing all over the US though.

    Sales tax in NYC is 8.375%. The tip scale starts at 15% but you can choose to leave more (18%, 20%). Many restaurants add a tip for parties over 6 or 8. You should asked what the restaurant’s policy is at the time you make a reservation. Often, the restaurant’s policy is written on the bottom of the menu.
