unique dining experience in New York?

I’m looking for a unique restaurant to take my boyfriend to for our anniversary. When I say unique, I don’t just mean eclectic food. I mean something truly out of the ordinary, like a dinner train, or a murder mystery dinner, or a unique theme. Preferably something romantic, nothing cheesy or too touristy, like Jekyll and Hyde’s. It can even be up to an hour and a half outside of New York City. Thanks!
I’ve been to Mars 2112. Thought it looked really cool on the website, but its actually pretty cheesy in person. Great for kids, but not for adults, and the food is along the lines of TGI Friday’s, Applebees.

Theres this place called mars 2112 (mars twenty-one-twelve thats how they say it.) I’ve never actually been there but i’ve heard it’s really neat. Check it out on the web.. google it or something.

As there are many themed spots in NYC, its hard to name them all. Here are some you’d want to try though:
    1. The always classic Hard Rock Cafe.
2.The Cinema Cafe on Upper East Side
3.You can go intergalactic in Mars 2112, which is located in Times Square
4.Duvet, located in Flatiron, where you can combine the experience of fine dining with lounging on a king size bed.
    Hope this helps a little

Take my advice and go to Casa La Femme at 59th St and First Ave. It got voted NYC’s most romantic restaurant and for good reason. The food is Middle Eastern/Egyptian.

You want unique? Reserve one of the tents. You sit on pillows at a low table in a private tent. You are completely enclosed in this tents almost sheer fabric. The server, at least mine was last time I went, is very attentive, yet not intrusive and is respectful of your privacy.

You will pay for this very memorable experience. When my wife and I went the night we were engaged, we did the prix fixe dinner which included I think five courses.

I highly recommend Casa La Femme in their relatively new uptown location at 59th and First.

Theres this wonderful Peruvian restaurant called Pio Pio…there one in queens..nearby the 7 train 82nd st–Jackson height, and also one in the Bronx on i believe Cyprus…any way…its a long wait…but worth it…its between 10-30 dollars…a reservation is recommended…and they only take cash or American express…also…i would recommend the matador combo…(whole rotisserie chicken, avocado and tomato salad, rice and beans, tostones,) also a appetiser of salchipapa (can substitute sweet fried plantain instead)

For something unique, I would suggest this Japanese restaurant called Ninja. I have hear mixed reviews, but it may be something you are looking for. It is in downtown Manhattan. Check out the site and good luck with your restaurant search,

    Hi!

If you are looking for a truly unique dining experience in New York City, you should go to one of CamaJe French-American Bistro’s Dining in the Dark events. If dining in the dark isn’t your thing, this place is very cute and has good food each and every day. Hope that helps!

Check this place out! You can buy your tickets online & they offer a small discount. It’s a great murder mystery place off broadway.

Some of the shows are a bit hokey, but they’re a lot of fun.

For Vday, my boyfriend and I decided to do something different.. so we went to Lips (http://www.lipsnyc.com). It is a drag show… but such a fun energy. May sure your boyfriend is comfortable with his sexuality, the staff does tend to focus on the straight men…. they blush they easier then the gays (most times). The food was decent and not horribly over priced. It will give you a memory to remember!

zenkichi in williamsburg, brooklyn is probably one of the unique dining experiences i’ve had. it’s a japanese tapas place. you are sat in a booth, and a shade is put down so no one can see you and your guest, the waiter only comes over when you press a button at the table. the food is great and they have a good sake selection. it is in brooklyn, but the first stop in brooklyn off the L train, so it’s not far.
