Thinking about moving to Santa Fe, NM?

Hi-
My husband and I are considering moving to Santa Fe and would really appreciate some general advice from people who live or have lived and worked in the city. We currently live in Miami Beach and work in the service industry (have worked in fine dining restaurants/hotels) for over 15 years. We have worked in many cities across the US including Philadelphia, New York and Seattle. We love Florida but are looking to relocate somewhere that’s a little more artsy and real (my husband is also an artist) and less superficial and expensive. I have read that Santa Fe is “expensive” to live, but from what I have researched it’s not have as expensive as South Beach and keep in mind that Florida living wage and salaries are considerably low, although we are really not affected by this since we work in restaurants and live mainly off tips. We don’t have a car nor do we want one, so living in downtown Santa Fe, near the Plaza and all the restaurants would be ideal. Thank you for your time.

well, as a native of Santa Fe, I can tell you that the city is an excellent choice as far as “artsy” goes. As for the job situation, i cannot help you there, as I seem to visit every 2 years or so. There are plenty of restaurants, and all are usually looking for some kind of help, but, I’d look in the higher class hotels also. If you get a chance, just for a little day trip, check out the little town of Madrid, if you want “artsy”.my grandfather used to be the postmaster there in the 50’s and 60’s
