I’m looking for something in the area of Penn Station (reachable by cab in 20 minutes or less, roughly) that has good quality Mongolian grill-style dining. This is a place where they have a large variety of ingredients you can select – and they cook them up for you (usually stir-fry style). Price is not relevant, just location and quality. It’s for a team building exercise and we’ve got a decent budget.
There aren’t any Mongolian places left in the city at least, the Korean BBQs have replaced them, but here’s a few of those
There’s Madangsui http://madangsui.com/
which is 2 blocks or so east of Penn,
and Gyu-Kaku http://www.gyu-kaku.com/
which is a little farther away, but reasonable by cab.
That’s a Japanese BBQ where you cook the meat in front of you, kind of like what the asker is looking for. I don’t know what they’re like, so you will be taking a chance.. Also, be forewarned anything in midtown is going to be packed on a weekday lunchtime.
How about a Korean Barbecue instead? Little Korea — West 32 Street between 6th & 5th Avenues. You can walk over from Penn Station. Take your pick of many. Some examples:
Wonjo (open 24 ours) and Dae Dong.
Avoid Friday and Saturday nights at all costs.
