I have not seen my friend for twenty years, what should I do?

Twenty years ago I was friends with Jimmy Wells, my best chum, and the finest chap in the world. He and I were raised in New York, just like two brothers, together. When I was eighteen and Jimmy was twenty, we parted. I went to the West to make my fortune. You couldn’t have dragged Jimmy out of New York; he thought it was the only place on earth. Well, we agreed that night that we would meet at ‘Big Joe’ Brady’s restaurant, were we dined on our last night together, again, exactly twenty years from that date and time, no matter what our conditions might be or from what distance we might have to come. We corresponded at first, but then, you know, West is so hectic, so I stopped writing. But I kept my part of the bargain, and came. There is no restaurant here anymore, it’s a hardware store. We agreed to meet at ten, and it’s later than this, and no Jimmy. A police officer checked on me, he thought perhaps that I wanted to rob the place or something. I explained to him why I was here, and he went away. I had come a thousand miles to fill an appointment, uncertain almost to absurdity, with the friend of my youth, I just smoke my cigar and wait. But he does not turn up. What should I do?

“After Twenty Years” By…..I forget his name. You just stand and wait until you get arrested by a police officer impersonating Jimmy for being a con man out west. Have fun in prison!

Very intreguing story!! Just like out of the movies!

First you have to ask yourself a few questions…..
1)Do you have any contact information for him?
2)Have you tried contacting him in the past 20 yrs?
3)Do you have any other mutual friends that might be able to contact him? Or know any of his family members?
4)Could your friend, possibly have forgotten the date/time/place/etc?
Or thought that you weren’t going to show up?
5)Have you checked the obituaries? (sucks, but it does happen)
6)Could he have moved away? (he wasn’t ready then, but a lot can happen in 20 yrs)
7)Maybe he simply forgot, or didn’t think that you would show up…

I think the idea is very sweet and that you are a good friend to hold up your end of the bargain, but if there has been no contact in the past 15+ years, your friend may have moved on from that point in his life. Maybe try looking him up on whitepages.com, facebook.com, myspace.com, or some other friend finder web-site. Maybe he has a profile somewhere that you can get his information.

    Good Luck!
