Cool Sights on a Low, Low Budget in New York?

Can I have fun with $50 a day for three days in New York? Any money saving tips for transit and dining? I’d rather not eat corner stand hot dogs, if I can help it. And, my friend and I are going to want a glass of wine at some point -is that asking too much?
It depends on if that $50 a day is including transit money or not.. Also it depends on the area of New York you want to go to. But I just took a vacation to New York and I did it pretty cheaply. I just hit up the fast food places and gas stations for snacks mostly. But I did go to a few nice places for drinks. I believe it’s possible.
Niagara Falls is a MUST see.
You could easily blow that @ one place. Depends how much partying you’re gonna do and are you doing shopping also?
Get an unlimited Metrocard for $22? i believe unless they raised their rates. It only works for one person but beats payint $2.00 one way each and every time. Also, cheapest beer is usually $5.00 well drinks unless you come across happy hour and very VERY few places charge $3.00 for tap anymore. Lunch anywhere (even fast food) will run you about $6.75 and avg. dinner entree is anywhere from $8.-$13.00 on the cheapest side.
DON’t take a cab unless you’re carrying buttloads of shopping bags. They usually get stuck in traffic on purpose with meter running, they take the long way and get you there much later than necessary only to surprise you with sticker shock. Many don’t speak english so you better have a detailed Google map with you.
I’d go to the Metropolitan Museum (suggested admission), the MOMA on fridays between 4-6 it’s free (stand in line though) or Sony World (free) and Webster Hall on Thursdays it’s free for ladies before 11pm.
Some galleries in Chelsea you can just waltz right in but they all have weird hours so check it out.
Avoid any bars that have a hundred people smoking out front with red velvet rope. These are by now played out and too many people know about them and that’s when those new bars tend to suck. NEVER PAY COVER for a freakin’ bar unless you’re seeing a musical act or it’s a full-out club. Go to the side streets (East or Greenwich Village) and you’ll find little gems that arent’ overcrowded therefore good drink prices. Helps to make friends with bartenders but tip a dollar a drink- that’s the rule!
Spend one of your days in Brooklyn! My two best friends and I recently did that and had a blast. We walked across the Brooklyn Bridge, ate Pizza by the water, spent time at the Navy Pier, and a spent a few hours at Cony Island. Your dollars will stretch there. Good luck!
Grab a pizza in Greenwich Village…..some places do offer a glass of wine. Take a walk around and see the locals (West 4th basketball court, Washington Square Park). Grab a subway (A) and head down to Fulton Street. Hang out at Pier 17 (South Street Seaport) and then walk on down to the Staten Island Ferry and hop a ride on it…the ride is FREE! Then take the subway (number 1) up to Times Square and just walk around and check out what’s going on.
